Health and Safety policy
Health and Safety Policy for Finsbury Park Movers
Finsbury Park Movers is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, customers, and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and relocation services. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our objectives, responsibilities, and procedures to manage and reduce risks associated with domestic and commercial moving operations.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, property damage, and environmental harm arising from our activities. We recognise that professional removals involve manual handling, vehicle use, work in clients homes and premises, and the handling of varied goods and materials. We will manage these risks through effective planning, training, supervision, and continuous improvement.
We will comply with all applicable health and safety legislation and industry best practice, and we will make sure that adequate resources are provided to implement and maintain this policy. Health and safety performance is regarded as an integral part of our overall business performance.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management at Finsbury Park Movers is accountable for implementing this policy and ensuring that it is communicated, understood, and applied at all levels of the organisation. Management will:
Set clear health and safety objectives and targets for the business.
Identify significant risks in our moving operations and put in place appropriate control measures.
Provide staff with suitable information, instruction, training, and supervision.
Supply and maintain any necessary equipment, vehicles, and personal protective equipment in a safe condition.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to prevent recurrence.
Review this policy regularly and update it as required by changes in law, working practices, or organisational structure.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees, including temporary staff and contractors, share responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment. Every individual working for Finsbury Park Movers is expected to:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
Follow all safety instructions, procedures, and training provided by the company.
Use vehicles, equipment, and protective gear correctly and not misuse or tamper with anything provided for health and safety purposes.
Report hazards, defects, accidents, and near misses promptly to a supervisor or manager.
Cooperate fully with any investigation or health and safety initiative introduced by the company.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
We will carry out suitable and proportionate risk assessments for our activities, including home and office removals, packing, loading, transport, and unloading. These assessments will identify potential hazards such as manual handling risks, slips and trips, falls from height when using vehicle ramps, and hazards associated with working in unfamiliar premises.
Based on these assessments we will implement safe systems of work. These may include route planning, load securing procedures, safe lifting techniques, limits on load weights, team lifting arrangements, and the use of appropriate handling equipment such as trolleys or lifting straps. Risk assessments will be reviewed periodically and whenever there are significant changes in our activities or equipment.
Manual Handling and Load Safety
Removals work inherently involves lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing goods. To minimise the risk of musculoskeletal injury, all staff involved in physical handling will receive manual handling training relevant to their role. This will cover correct posture, lifting methods, use of handling aids, and the importance of not exceeding personal capability.
We will take practical steps to reduce manual handling risks, such as disassembling large items where possible, sharing heavy loads between team members, and planning the sequence of loading and unloading to avoid unnecessary movement. Particular attention will be given to the safe handling of awkward, fragile, or high-value items, ensuring that both staff and property are protected.
Vehicle and Driving Safety
Our vehicles are essential to our service and will be operated with high standards of safety. We will ensure that all drivers hold the appropriate licences and receive information and guidance on safe driving, vehicle checks, load securing, and route planning.
Vehicles will be routinely inspected and maintained to ensure roadworthiness. Pre-use checks will be carried out by drivers before starting a job, and any defects or concerns will be reported immediately. Loads will be distributed and secured correctly to prevent movement during transit, protecting both road users and customer property.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
Finsbury Park Movers recognises its responsibility to protect clients and the public during moving operations. When working at domestic or commercial premises, our teams will assess access routes, corridors, stairways, and entrances for potential hazards. We will take steps to reduce risks such as blocking fire exits, causing trip hazards with equipment, or damaging property.
Where necessary, we will use signage, barriers, or other means to warn people of work in progress and to keep routes clear. Our staff are instructed to act with consideration and professionalism at all times, including careful handling of furniture and belongings to avoid injury or damage.
Training, Information, and Supervision
Health and safety training is provided to all relevant staff upon induction and refreshed periodically. Training may cover manual handling, use of equipment, safe driving, emergency procedures, hazard awareness, and any other topics identified by risk assessment.
Supervisors and team leaders play a key role in ensuring that training is put into practice. They are responsible for monitoring working methods on site, correcting unsafe behaviour, and providing guidance and support to new or less experienced staff members.
Accidents, Incidents, and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, work-related illnesses, dangerous occurrences, and near misses must be reported and recorded. We will investigate these events to identify root causes and take corrective action to prevent recurrence. Findings may result in updates to risk assessments, changes in working procedures, or additional training.
Our teams are briefed on basic emergency procedures, including what to do in case of fire, serious injury, or road traffic collisions while on duty. First aid supplies are available in vehicles or at premises as appropriate, and staff will be informed of how to access assistance if needed.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
We encourage feedback from employees and customers on health and safety matters. Input from those directly involved in removals work is valuable in identifying risks and improving our procedures. Health and safety will be a standing item in management reviews so that performance is monitored, lessons are learned, and improvements are implemented.
Finsbury Park Movers is committed to continually enhancing its health and safety standards. By working together and maintaining a culture where safety is a shared responsibility, we aim to deliver a reliable, professional, and safe removal service for every customer.
